The Yellowjackets shot the ball well yet again in the early going, opening the game on a 6-0 run with baskets from Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior), Norlin, and Justine Larson (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti). It was soon a 9-1 game after Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) hit the open three, assisted by Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter), and then 11-1 after an Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover) layup. The quarter would end with a Kontny free throw 12-5.
The second quarter was all 'Jackets, Norlin found the basket to make it 14-7, and then again with 6:04 remaining to go up 16-13, after the Eagles made a small run. These are all the points that Northwestern would find in the second, as Kontny scored six-straight points to be up 22-13 at halftime.
Norlin knocked down back-to-back free throws at 9:02 to open the second half, followed by a flurry of offensive rebounds for the 'Jackets that added two more points for Norlin at 6:51. Taylor Kane (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) would get her first points of the night about 50 seconds later on a layup assisted by Kontny.
Reinertsen found a spark of shots with three minutes left in the quarter, getting three straight buckets. First, she found a layup after getting the offensive rebound, and then she hit back-to-back 3-pointers for eight points in 59 seconds. Carpenter got a 3-pointer thereafter, assisted by Brittany Laehn (Gilmanton, Wis./Gilmanton), to make it 42-23. Norlin added a layup and Carpenter a free throw to end the quarter 45-23.
Jade Tucker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) would get her first points of the contest in the fourth; she gained control of the offensive rebound and put it back in for two. Â Norlin would keep adding bucket, stretching out the Eagles by 22 points with eight minutes remaining.
