BELOIT (September 2, 2017) - Superior volleyball found themselves in a three-way tie at the Beloit College Tournament, so they ended up taking two victories from Rockford University on their way to three wins total over the weekend.
The Yellowjackets went down to Beloit College on Friday afternoon to take on Wisconsin Lutheran and Beloit for two back to back games. Against Wisconsin-Lutheran, the Yellowjackets couldn't find their rhythm in a tightly contested match, as the Warriors took three of the five sets to win.
The next three matches would be a different story. Superior found their mojo and rattled off three wins in a row. The first win came against Beloit as three Yellowjackets shined:
Ashley Runck (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley ) led with 10 kills,
Mackenzie Dahlin (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna ) was the defensive backbone for the team as she racked up 24 kills, and
Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) was the set-up woman with 18 assists.
The Yellowjackets felt good heading into the next day. In what ended up being a tie between three teams, Superior had a higher point differential after beating Rockford in the first game of the second day, the Yellowjackets played Rockford once again to take home another victory.
Freshmen
Elise Ertl (Phillips, Wis./Phillips) and
Emily Shaffer (Worthington, Minn./Worthington) stood out against Rockford, totaling 11 kills each. Â
The Yellowjackets will take a quick break over Labor Day, but will be right back at it as they open their home schedule against Finlandia Tuesday Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
