'Jackets grab fourth straight win over Bethany Lutheran

UW-Superior 3, Bethany Lutheran 1

SUPERIOR, Wis. (October 7, 2017) – The Yellowjackets grabbed their fourth straight conference win today as they took town Bethany Lutheran in four sets.

The first set was as close as they come. Superior jumped out to an 8-4 lead after Brylee Colligan (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) killed the ball on an assist from Megan Holz (Savage, Minn./Burnsville). The Vikings fought back and brought the game to 22-22, but another kill by Colligan, assisted by VerWay, brought Superior up by one. The 'Jackets finished the set on a Viking error and a kill from Leah Nightingale (Dayton, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's), assisted by VerWay.

The second set belonged to the Vikings. Superior was able to tie the game at 25-25, but an error from the 'Jackets followed by a kill from Bethany Lutheran sealed the game 27-25.

The third set was all Yellowjackets, as they rattled off an 11-2 run to open the set, led by good serving from Colligan and Nightingale. The final point would be a kill that came from Mara Cameron (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids), assisted by Holz.

The final set was tight, much like the second. Superior opened the game down 5-7 after a kill from the Vikings, but soon stormed back, taking a 12-8 advantage after an attack error from the Vikings. A block from Ashley Runck (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) and Holz would make the game 18-16 in favor of the 'Jackets. A service ace from Colligan would win the match 25-20.

Holz would finish with a career-high 33 assists, while Cameron and Colligan would both notch nine kills on the day. On the defensive side, Mackenzie Dahlin (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) would collect 22 kills, alongside Karlie Leif (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) who had 14.

The Yellowjackets will take their talents to Finlandia this Wednesday, October 11, and then make the trip back home to face Martin Luther on Saturday, October 14.
