Dan Stauber Stepping Down After 16 Seasons



The University of Wisconsin-Superior has announced that Dan Stauber, head coach of the Yellowjacket men's hockey program, will be stepping down from his coaching position effective immediately. UW-Superior will immediately begin an expedited search for new head men's hockey coach.

Stauber just completed his 16th eason as the head coach of the Yellowjackets and during that time he had an overall record of 258-148-58.

"It's been a privilege working with such outstanding student-athletes on the men's hockey team. I'm proud of their success on and off the ice. I would like to thank the players, the fans, and all those who supported me and this program over the past 18 years," Stauber said.

"I would like to thank Dan for his commitment to our university and the Yellowjacket men's hockey program over the past sixteen years," said Chancellor Renee Wachter. "Under his leadership, the men's hockey program has experienced the success of a national championship and has consistently carried out the proud traditions of UW-Superior Hockey. The men's hockey program is clearly an important program to our campus and our entire community. We will immediately begin searching for a new coach who will continue that long-standing tradition of excellence on and off the ice, and lead an exciting new era of Yellowjacket Hockey."

Stauber, a UWS alumnus, became the all-time wins leader by a hockey coach in UW-Superior history during the 2014-2015 season. Stauber also played hockey for the Yellowjackets between 1984-1988. He was the head coach for the 2002 UWS men's hockey team that won the NCAA Division III national championship. Despite the lack of NCAA success since 2002, there have been multiple success stories for the UWS Yellowjackets. During Stauber's tenure, numerous student-athletes have received All-American honors as well as academic student-athlete honors. Stauber has also been recognized for national and conference coaching accomplishments during his tenure.
